The Village Between Coast and Countryside

Hill Head Borders

Quiet residential fringe merging into Hill Head, popular with retirees and families, with easy access to Holly Hill Woodland Park, the coast, and Stubbington Study Centre.

The south-western edge of Stubbington merges gradually into the coastal settlement of Hill Head, with the boundary between the two being more administrative than physical. The streets in this transitional zone, running along Holly Hill Lane and the connecting roads south of Stubbington Lane, enjoy a character that benefits from both Stubbington's village centre and Hill Head's proximity to the coast. Hill Head itself is a distinct community with its own harbour, beach huts, and seafront character, but the residential streets on its northern edge share much in common with Stubbington. Housing here includes a mixture of bungalows, semi-detached homes, and some larger detached properties, many dating from the interwar and immediate post-war periods. The area is popular with retirees attracted by the quiet streets, manageable gardens, and the ability to walk to the sea within fifteen minutes. Holly Hill Woodland Park, managed by Hampshire County Council, provides a significant area of semi-natural woodland on Stubbington's southern boundary, with walking trails, a visitor centre, and a children's play area. The park is well used by families and dog walkers from both communities. Stubbington Study Centre, which operates as a small zoo and wildlife education facility, is located nearby and draws school groups and family visitors throughout the year. This part of Stubbington feels slightly removed from the busier village centre, offering a quieter residential experience with easy access to both countryside and coast.
