Walks in and Around Stubbington
Woodland, coastal, and countryside routes from the village
Stubbington's position between coast and countryside gives it access to a good range of walks that belie its suburban appearance.
Holly Hill Woodland Park is the most accessible starting point. The park has several waymarked trails through mixed woodland, ranging from short loops suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs to longer routes that explore the full extent of the park. The paths are well maintained and the woodland is attractive throughout the year, with bluebells in spring and rich autumn colour.
From Holly Hill, it is possible to continue south to Hill Head and pick up the coastal path along the Solent. This route takes you past Hill Head harbour, the beach huts, and along the foreshore with views across to the Isle of Wight. Turning west from Hill Head leads to Titchfield Haven nature reserve, where hides overlooking the wetland provide excellent birdwatching opportunities.
Heading west from the village, footpaths cross open farmland toward Titchfield. The route passes through hedgerow-lined fields on the coastal plain, with views toward the Meon valley. Titchfield village itself, with its historic abbey ruins, pubs, and church, makes a good destination for a circular walk.
North of the village, paths connect through the Crofton area toward Fareham and the open land around the Meon valley. These are less dramatic routes but provide useful options for everyday walking.
For longer walks, the Solent Way long-distance path passes through the Hill Head area and can be joined from Stubbington with a short connecting walk. The path runs along the Hampshire coast and provides routes of any length depending on ambition.
All of these walks are on relatively flat terrain, reflecting the coastal plain geography. Mud can be an issue on the countryside paths after rain, but the woodland and coastal routes are generally well drained.
